Sobre la importancia de crear espacios seguros para jóvenes, de llamar a las cosas por su nombre, y no ser cómplices de un sistema que nos oprime.

Hace unos dos meses Espacio Rebeldía conoció a una guerrera de las buenas, una líder. Cuando Astrid nos llamó “Mis rebeldes” ya supimos que íbamos a entendernos. Astrid nos invitó recientemente a un conversatorio sobre violencia de género organizado por ESL Lecce (Italia), y moderado por ella misma. No pudimos más que alegrarnos de que hubiesen organizado un evento así, en la universidad, que viene siendo el espacio clásico para la creación del conocimiento, pero que hoy se convertía en un espacio donde compartir vivencias, escenarios, rabia y lucha. Una unión Italia-Turquía-España donde jóvenes estudiantes y activistas hemos podido hacer una puesta en común de heridas propias pero que compartimos y que sufrimos por igual.

Hemos tenido el honor de compartir espacio con personas muy especiales, Astrid, Giulia, Simay, y toda la comunidad de estudiantes que han acudido al evento y han compartido unas visiones únicas en torno a los debates sobre la educación, sobre el arte como forma de activismo, sobre la necesidad de deconstrucción de unos valores patriarcales que nos han sido impuestos sin elección,… A todas ellas, elles y ellos, gracias por ser y estar.

Nuestra compañera Giulia, la primera fotógrafa en inmortalizar drag queens en Lecce! Qué suerte saber de ti, haberte conocido y saber de tu obra a través de la fotografía, una fotografía que lucha por hacer que las mujeres y personas en los márgenes, las outcasts, puedan sentirse vistas. Gracias por hablar, desde la experiencia propia, del sentimiento de exclusión, de la necesidad de valorar tanto las fuerzas como las vulnerabilidades de todas, de la necesidad de deconstrucción. Tu arte importa. 

Nuestra compañera Simay, un descubrimiento fortuito, una coincidencia de las que te dan fuerzas para seguir en lucha. Gracias por compartir con nosotras hoy la perspectiva de Turquía, por hablar desde el corazón, desde lo que duele, y con un amor a todas las mujeres y a nuestra lucha compartida. Reconociendo que “incluso si tenemos cadenas diferentes, todas estamos encadenadas, y no seremos libres hasta que todas seamos libres”. Gracias por poner énfasis en la importancia de la violencia psicológica, tantas veces silenciada, invisibilizada y cuestionada. Tu discurso acompaña y abraza, nos recuerda que vamos de la mano, que no estamos locas, y que podemos cambiar las cosas. 

Experiencias como estas nos dan fuerzas porque nos recuerdan la fuerza de las acciones políticas colectivas, de los actos revolucionarios que dan sentido y orientan nuestras vidas hacia un futuro mejor, donde el arte, en todas sus formas, sea puesto en valor como una forma válida y potente de reivindicación y denuncia, a la vez que de expresión de las vulnerabilidades que nos acompañan en nuestro cotidiano, donde la sensibilidad no esa una debilidad sino sea reconocida como poder, el poder de expresarnos a nosotras mismas y el poder de crear alianzas entre nosotras que nos ayuden a estar y sentirnos más cerca.

Nuestras historias,  nuestros actos, nuestras palabras importan. La juventud tiene poder. Y pensamos utilizarlo. Si no somos llamas, ¿cómo vamos a encender un fuego?

“CHALLENGE THE SYSTEM”

The importance of creating safe spaces for young people, of calling things for what they are, and not being complicit in a system that oppresses us.

About two months ago Espacio Rebeldía met a real warrior, a leader. When Astrid called us “My rebels” for the first time we already knew we were going to understand each other. Astrid recently invited us to a brainstorming session on gender-based violence organized by ESN Lecce (Italy), and moderated by herself. We could not help but be so happy that they had organized an event like this, at the university, which has been the classic space for the creation of knowledge, but today became a space to share experiences, scenarios, anger and fight spirit. An Italy-Turkey-Spain union where young students and activists have been able to share our own wounds that we share and suffer together.

We have had the honor of sharing space with very special people, Astrid, Giulia, Simay, and the entire community of students who have attended the event and have shared unique visions around the debates about education, about art as a form of activism, about the need to deconstruct patriarchal values that have been imposed on us without choice,… To all of them, thank you for being yourselves and for being there.

Our colleague Giulia, the first photographer to immortalize drag queens in Lecce! How lucky to know about you, to have met you and to learn about your work through photography, a photography that fights to make women and people on the margins, the outcasts, feel seen. Thank you for speaking, from your own experience, about the feeling of exclusion, about the need to value both the strengths and vulnerabilities of all, about the need for deconstruction. Your art matters.

Our colleague Simay, a fortuitous discovery, a coincidence that gives you the strength to continue fighting. Thank you for sharing with us today the perspective of Turkey, for speaking from your heart, from what hurts, and with love for all women and our shared fights. Recognizing that “even if we have different chains, we are all chained, and we will not be free until we are all free”. Thank you for emphasizing the importance of psychological violence, so often silenced, invisibilized and questioned. Your speech accompanies and embraces, reminds us that we go hand in hand, that we are not crazy, and that we can change things.

Experiences like these give us strength because they remind us of the power of collective political actions, of revolutionary acts that give meaning and guide our lives towards a better future, where art, in all its forms, is valued as a valid and powerful way of addressing vital issues and denouncing them, as well as an expression of the vulnerabilities that accompany us in our daily lives, where sensitivity is not a weakness but is recognized as power, the power to express ourselves and the power to create alliances between us to help us be and feel closer to each other.

Our stories, our actions, our words matter. Youth has power. And we plan to use it. If we are not flames, how are we going to light a fire?
