Heartstopper se ha consagrado como una de las series de esta generación. No sólo por la visibilidad y el respaldo que ofrece a la comunidad LGTBQ+, sino por mostrar temas tan vitales que atraviesan nuestras vidas, y que impactan de manera significativa en la vida de las jóvenes. La adolescencia es una época de muchos cambios, muchas experiencias nuevas, situaciones que no sabemos gestionar. A veces porque aún no nos conocemos completamente a nosotras mismas y nos faltan recursos para afrontar esas situaciones. Otras veces porque sabemos perfectamente quiénes somos pero el mundo lleva ya tiempo diciéndonos cómo deberíamos ser y tenemos que aceptar que no siempre vamos a encajar en los esquemas.

Es tan importante que esta generación de jóvenes tenga una serie como Heartstopper como referente. La visibilidad que otorga a toda la comunidad gay, lesbiana, bisexual, trans y asexual es fundamental. Las historias de los personajes se indagan con una profundidad que merecen todas las experiencias vividas por todas, no únicamente las de Nick y Charlie como protagonistas de la serie. En esta temporada se exploran tramas relacionadas con el bullying homófobo, los trastornos alimenticios, problemas familiares, la incertidumbre por el futuro después del instituto, etc. Pero también es una serie que ofrece mucho comfort en todos los momentos en los que les vemos crecer, apoyarse mutuamente, defenderse unas a otras, quererse incondicionalmente, ser pacientes y respetar los tiempos de las demás, y tener en cuenta el valor de la amistad.

No podríamos dejar escapar esta oportunidad para destacar la buena representación que supone Nick Nelson para el colectivo bisexual. Este colectivo es espacialmente invisibilizado y cuestionado, por eso es tan importante que Nick corrija todos los comentarios que recibe sobre ser gay diciendo; «en realidad soy bi». Sí, es importante puntualizarlo, porque su verdad, es parte de su identidad y de cómo él existe en el mundo.

Sin duda, esta temporada da un paso al frente en profundidad y complejidad de las tramas en comparación con la primera. Y todos estos temas que aborda tienen que ser tenidos en cuenta antes de verla, en caso de que pueda adentrarse en temas delicados que puedan herir sensibilidades. Es por eso que no hemos querido hacer ningún spoiler dentro de lo posible, pero sí hacer mención a modo de advertencia por vuestro bienestar. Es importante cuidarse y cuidarnos.

Heartstopper has become one of the series of this generation. Not only because of the visibility and support that offers to the LGBTQ+ community, but because it shows such vital topics that feel so close to our lives and that have a significant impact on young people’s lives. Adolescence is a time of changes, lots of new experiences and situations that we don’t really know how to handle. Sometimes because we don’t know ourselves completely yet and we lack the resources to face those situationes. Others because we do know exacly who we are, but the world has been telling us who we should be and we have to accept the fact that we are not always going to fit the schemes.

It is so important that this generation has a series like Heartstopper as a landmark. It is a fundamental visibility given to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans and asexual community. The stories of the characters are developed with a depth that all the experiences lived by all of them deserve, not only those of Nick and Charlie as main characters of the series. This season explores plots related to homophobic bullying, eating disorders, family issues, uncertainty about the future after high school, etc. But it is also a series that offers a lot of comfort in every moment in which we see them grow, support each other, defend each other, love each other unconditionally, be patient and respect each other’s times, and appreciate the value of friendship and love.

We could not miss this opportunity to highlight the good representation that Nick Nelson means for the bisexual community. This community is espacially silenced and questioned, which is why it is so important that Nick corrects all the comments he receives about being gay by saying; «I’m actually bi.» Yes, it is important to point it out, because it’s his truth and this is part of his identity and how he exists in the world.

Without a doubt, this season takes a step forward in depth and complexity of the plots compared to the first season. And all these issues that the series addresses have to be taken into account before seeing it, in case it can dive into sensitive issues that may hurt one’s sensibilities. That is why we intended not to make any spoilers as far as possible, but we did want to mention them as a warning for your well-being. It is important to take care of ourselves and take care of each other.
